🏉 Brisbane Lions midfielder Lachie Neale will miss the 2026 AFL grand final against Fremantle after the AFL Tribunal upheld his one-match suspension for striking Hawthorn’s Jack Ginnivan.
The tribunal found Neale intentionally struck Ginnivan behind play during Brisbane’s preliminary-final win. Neale had argued the contact was a bump or body check and pointed to his previously clean record.
The ruling removes a two-time Brownlow Medallist from Brisbane’s midfield for the season decider. It also means his most recent match may have been his 185th for the Lions, amid reports that he is out of contract.
The charge reflects the AFL’s 2026 crackdown on off-the-ball strikes, with contact to the chest or stomach more likely to receive a medium-impact grading. The Lions could still seek a review by the AFL Appeal Board before the grand final. ⚖️
