Does “showing interest” make you look desperate?
I’ve often heard that one of the most attractive qualities is showing genuine interest in other people. A lot of advice (and even books) say that if you want to be more likable, you should ask questions and be curious about others.
But sometimes when I do that, I end up feeling kind of silly afterward. It feels like I’m the only one asking questions and trying to keep the conversation going. When it’s not reciprocated, it almost makes me look desperate or overly interested — and like the other person isn’t interested at all.
Maybe I’m missing something? What do y’all think about this?
Basically how do you become someone who’s both interesting and interested, without feeling like you’re the only one putting in effort?
