To those navigating this journey, I want to share that my daughter suffered from epilepsy throughout her childhood, but it completely disappeared as she grew up. This "growing out" of seizures is a testament to the brain's incredible ability to adapt and mature.
Through her experience, I’ve learned that the brain’s ability to mature and adapt is truly remarkable. I also learned that epilepsy is a highly diverse neurological disorder where electrical activity in the brain is disrupted, sometimes resolving spontaneously as the nervous system develops.
I believe awareness is the best way to dismantle stigma and ensure that no one is defined by their diagnosis. You can support those with the condition by learning proper first aid and providing a space where they feel understood and safe. Awareness is vital because it dismantles the stigma and fear surrounding the condition, replacing myths with the facts needed to keep people safe.
You can support someone with epilepsy by learning proper seizure first aid, such as keeping them calm and protecting their head, and by offering an environment where they feel understood rather than defined by their diagnosis.
By fostering this culture of empathy, we ensure that those living with the condition can lead full, empowered lives. Let’s continue to foster empathy and hope for everyone affected by epilepsy. 💜
