Is Venting about insecurities just a form of compliment…

Is Venting about insecurities just a form of compliment fishing?

I often get the urge to discuss my insecurities, but I realize it's just a way to seek validation. If I express an insecurity to a friend, I feel like I know what the response would be, and if the dialogue tree has one good option, why ask the question?

I usually don't externalize this belief though. I honestly enjoy hearing people talk about their insecurities because I feel the same way, and it's comforting to hear them expressed by someone. If someone i consider far more charismatic than me worries about whether or not people like them, maybe I'm more charismatic than I give myself credit for.

Despite that though, at the end of the day, I still feel like it's a way people fish for compliments intentionally or otherwise. And to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure fishing for compliments is inherently bad. It's one thing to know your pretty and express doubt expecting to get compliments. It's another to feel genuinely insecure and express it even when you know your friends will reassure you. But should you even bother?
