My daughter's lies are escalating - I'm emotionally drained

My almost 13 y/o daughter has her first therapy session tomorrow, and my husband and I are emotionally exhausted.

We reached a breaking point after repeated lying, but it escalated recently when she started inventing serious accusations about us as parents (physical abuse / neglect).

None of it is true, and it has been devastating to process.
We later found out she was also lying to a boy she likes. She admitted she did it because she wanted his attention and sympathy.

What we don’t understand is why she felt the need to create these stories. She has so many wonderful qualities — she sings beautifully, draws, writes, and is genuinely talented. We’ve always tried to encourage her and build her confidence.

We are stable parents and try our best to provide a loving and supportive home. We spend time with her, listen to her, give her freedom and space, and support her hobbies. That’s why this hurts so much.

We love her deeply, but we’re also angry, disappointed, and honestly scared. It’s hard to support her while also dealing with the fact that these lies could have had serious consequences.
I’m also planning to start therapy myself because I don’t know how to cope with this as a parent.

For anyone who has been through something similar:

How do you rebuild trust after this?
How do you support your child while also protecting yourself emotionally?
What should we expect from therapy at the beginning?

Any advice is appreciated.
