Hiker killed by lightning today on Twin Peaks in Utah, USA
I was hiking today at Box Elder Peak in Utah. Took this video 12 minutes before a 59 year old man was tragically stuck and killed by lightning on or near the summit of Twin Peaks, which is about 5 miles from where I was standing when I took the video. Twin peaks is located on the far left of the video as it ends.
I had planned to summit today but scrapped the idea when the weather rolled in.
Summits, ridges, and other exposed terrain are the absolute worst places to be on a mountain during thunderstorms. If you hear thunder, even from a distance, you need to get out of any exposed terrain as quickly as you can.
