Once you have an inkling of what an adult person wants to do, let him fail even if it sounds terrible.

Don't fall for "What do you think?"
Even just pointing out blind spots, let alone playing devil's advocate, is almost always taken with bitterness. Further, if they lucked out or if you're mistaken, you get a double whammy. Your saying "I might be mistaken" doesn't help.
