Nick Kyrgios has accepted a one-month anti-doping suspension after testing positive for a cocaine metabolite at an ATP event in Mallorca in June, the International Tennis Integrity Agency said. 🎾
The ITIA accepted Kyrgios’s account that the cocaine use was social and occurred outside competition after consulting an independent expert at a WADA-accredited laboratory.
That distinction mattered: the default sanction was three months, but it was reduced to one month because Kyrgios entered an ITIA-approved treatment programme. He had been provisionally suspended since 4 August.
Kyrgios’s suspension ended on 3 September, subject to completing the programme, making him eligible to compete again. He also forfeited the Mallorca event’s prize money and ranking points. ⚖️
