Dealing with embarrassment

My LO is young, 4 years old, but I could tell they get embarrassed easily.

For example, they bumped their head pretty hard while playing and a set of “ooohs” came from concerned parents around us. Their initial reaction was to hold in tears, come to me to hide, and quietly sobbed and asked to go home. There are similar instances include that tripping or making a mistake and someone other than me or dad notes it (albeit can be kind and passive) they still insist to come over to me first to hide their cries snd then ask to go home.

I try to assure them that mistakes happen and if we’re not ready to go home we won’t leave, and then I help them try to move on.

I’m just curious if embarrassment is indeed common around this age and what else do parents do to help their kiddo out in situations and learn from it?
