🏆 Demi Vollering won the women’s road-race world title in Montreal on Saturday, beating Kasia Niewiadoma in an uphill sprint after a punishing final lap.
The Dutch rider attacked with 40 km remaining on the eight-lap circuit, was caught before the finish, then accelerated again inside the final 200 metres. Elisa Longo Borghini took bronze.
The victory adds the world title to a season in which Vollering has also won the Tour de France Femmes, Giro women, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Tour of Flanders. 🚴‍♀️
Vollering’s win gives her the rainbow jersey as world road-race champion. Niewiadoma, who won the 2024 Tour de France Femmes by four seconds over Vollering, finished second in Montreal.
