Trying to get into a union apprenticeship — don’t know where to start
I’m 23 and looking to get into a union apprenticeship, but I feel kinda lost on where to actually begin.
I’m open to different trades (electrician, carpenter, plumbing, etc.), I just want something stable, hands-on, and with real long-term growth. I’m tired of bouncing around and want to lock into a career I can build on.
For anyone who’s already in a union or went through the process:
•How did you get your foot in the door?
•Did you apply directly, go through a program, or know someone?
•What should I be doing right now to increase my chances of getting accepted?
•Anything you wish you knew before starting?
I’m in Illinois if that matters.
Appreciate any advice — I’m ready to take this serious and just need some direction.
