Networking is just socially acceptable manipulation

Idk, maybe it’s just me, but networking always feels kinda fake.

Like you meet someone and suddenly you’re being extra nice, extra interested, asking all the right questions… but in the back of your mind you’re thinking, how can this person be useful later?

And it’s not even one-sided. Everyone’s doing it.

People change how they talk depending on who they’re with, laugh more, agree more, act more “on point” than they normally would. It doesn’t feel like a real connection, it feels like a strategy.

I’m not even saying it’s a bad thing it clearly works. It just feels weird that we all act like it’s some genuine, wholesome thing when it’s mostly just… positioning yourself.

If there was zero benefit, I don’t think most people would even bother.
