Reframing “giving up” on a hike

Been building back up my hiking fitness this summer in recovery after three years of long covid with lots of short (5km or less) easy-moderate hill walks. I had to turn back on a hike today only 2km in, a moderate 8km hike that I used to do so easily, the first couple of kms are tough going with a steep incline. When I stopped for a little sit and water, I got very dizzy and my tummy started churning like crazy. I was solo and I thought to myself jeez I don’t want to pass out or 💩 myself on the trail I’m going to have to take the L and turn back, but I’ve decided that it wasn’t an L; I listened to my body, recognised my limitations. I had a nice stroll back down then a ramble around the forest and lake on lower ground, 4km all in, an afternoon in nature and moving is still a win to me, even if I didn’t complete the hike I’d originally intended. Glad for this community and the “hike your own hike” mantra I learned here as it really helped me reframe what could have felt like a failure today.
