How to put in effort in friendships when you're exhausted 24/7?
So I wouldn't call myself an introvert, I do get drained around people but AFAIK that's due to my autism and constant masking around others draining my energy. But it makes maintaining friendships really difficult. Even sending a simple text feels overwhelming because I know it'll end up starting a whole conversation that I'll have to actively participate in while pretending I don't just want to lie down and avoid everyone for like a year. And I definitely don't want it to be obvious how checked out I am because I don't want to hurt the person I'm talking to or make them think I don't care about them.
To be clear I love my friends. I really enjoy spending time with them when I do have the energy (which is rare these days, sadly). And I want to be able to be there for them when they need it. I just want to know if there's something I'm missing that will make it easier? Or if I just have to suck it up and deal with the exhaustion if I want to have friends? #relationships source
