Almost got beat up as an Asian woman in Paris
Was rather shaken by this experience so I thought I would share it here. I am currently visiting Paris for the weekend, and was browsing in a convenience store when this drunk guy started charging towards me and aggressively shouting in French and things like “China!” (Funny thing is I’m not even from China and barely know Chinese lol, English is my first language) I didn’t make direct eye contact with him but he was staring at me and stomping towards me, and it looked like he was about to get aggressive and beat me up, until my male friend (also Asian) stepped in. The drunk guy then immediately started apologising (to him only) but as we were leaving the store, he gave me a long and angry glare.
Wtf is up with the blatant sexism and racism 😂 I understand that this guy was drunk but the difference in treatment that my Asian male friend got as compared to myself is insane. I’ve been to quite a few places in Europe but France is on a whole other level when it comes to racism (and sexism I guess!)
Paris is honestly really beautiful, but unfortunately this experience has kind of ruined it for me :(
