I, for one, did not enjoy Amsterdam

I remember going to Amsterdam twice when I was younger (2013 & 2015). Wasn't blown away by the place, but remember leaving with a mostly positive experience. I don't know if the city has changed or if I'm just older, but 10 years later, I did not enjoy my time there at all.

First, It's expensive.

Second, the whole place felt unauthentic and very touristy. It's not just that there's a lot of tourists, there also seems to be a complete absence of actual locals. The people behind the counter speak better english than you do and it's not that dutch people have good english (even tho they do). It's actually because, most of the time, they're not even dutch. They're british, american, german, french, whatever. Expats/immigrants that moved to the city and work there. It doesn't feel like you're in another country and immersed in a different culture, you're just in some generic english speaking international hub with very little native identity.

Third, the place is dirty. There's garbage everywhere.

Fourth, I have trouble putting this one into word, but Amsterdam's gimmick and aesthetic feel embarassingly dated at this point. Like an aging hipster or a dated edgy milennial punk-rock group. And maybe this is specific to my situation, but I live in Québec(Canada) I can get my weed cheaper, better and more legally straight from gouvernement ran stores. Your weed game doesn't impress me at all, and with all the places making it legal, Amsterdam feels washed in that respect.

I went to Utrecht later during the trip and enjoyed that a lot more.
