Idk who needs to hear this, but if you're in need of repairs ...

In the last year, I've had a full repipe and a hot water heater replaced (and a new roof that USAA paid for minus deductible, but that's separate from this post.) And on Tuesday I will be having my A/C unit & blower replaced.

The repipe was necessary due to catastrophic corrosion of my '50s galvanized pipes. The hot water heater went out due to the corrosion due to rust on the top of the tank a month later due to said plumbing issue. The A/C unit went out due to it being almost 11 years old and, admittedly, lack of maintenance.

I called my homeowners insurance (USAA) for the repipe. They declined the liability, but provided me with one of their preferred local contractors. That contractor was the most affordable (by nearly $5k) out of the three other estimates that I had obtained.

I called my home warranty company (OneGuard) for both the water heater and A/C unit. They were both justifiably declined. But I'd received brilliant referrals. Out of four estimates, the ones recommended by them were by far the most affordable.

My point is, don't run to companies on billboards. Even through my independent research, I've found that companies recommended and backed by my insurance companies are the best-priced and also backed by your insurance. Meaning, they are ROC certified, warrwarranties, professional. As someone who co-owned and operated an auto body shop, I know that insurance companies don't do business with sketchy businesses while simultaneously searching for reasonable bidders.

I apologize if this shouldn't be posted on this sub. I know a lot of us are/will be having A/C issues. I was merely throwing in my two cents!

ETA: The businesses referred to me are always small businesses for a reason. The billboard and daytime television guys are too busy scamming people. Support your local businesses!
