Let's talk physical well-being . The science behind…

Let's talk physical well-being .
The science behind cold-exposure to your body is as clear as icey water and it's great!

Frequent exposure to #cold is linked to a number of different health benefits. For example, scientists have found evidence that exposure to cold speeds up #metabolism . Another benefit of exposing your body to cold is that it reduces inflammation, swelling, and sore muscles. Therefore, many athletes use ice baths and other types of exposure to cold as a means to speed up recovery after physical exercise. Furthermore, cold body therapy is also linked to improved quality of #sleep , more focus, and even an improved immune response.

I have started seeing the cold as a true benefit rather than an enemy. I often go out of my way to embrace it, like wearing skimpy clothing and just standing around in the garden for awhile, telling myself that "it does get better". And it does. It helps me keep my thoughts at bay during uncertain times and while I am by no means an expert in that field, I do feel the need to lecture others about it.

I do love me a hot bath and when taking a cold shower I usually start with warm water then slowly turn it colder until it becomes almost unbearable, which is when the #benefits kick in. Once you indulge in this systematic torture of yourself you are much more likely to see stressful events in your everyday life as something that you too, can overcome.

So what about you, are you going to take that cold shower today?
Have you learned anything new about yourself from being exposed to the cold or are you new to this simple trick that might finally cure you from your moodswings and #suicidal thoughts?

If you're willing to give it a try: write about it in the comments. Tell me what you felt afterwards. Let's grow strong together! I know the first times are hard but it does get better and it will inevitably benefit you. So hop on in!

Don't tell me about the cold! Most of the year it's freezing cold in this house (except in the areas heated by the tiled stove) and I don't function at all in the cold. I'm like a reptile that has to keep recharging itself with heat. A shower on the Mordor Plus temperature setting lasts a maximum of 1 - 2 days. If I don't heat myself up regularly, I can lie down and everyone thinks I'm a corpse, that's how cold my skin is.
My husband sometimes feels my pulse at night because I'm so freezing cold. So an ice bath? Over my dead body!

Hahaha damn. I am no health expert so I can't say for certain that it would actually CURE you from being overly cold most of the time but for me (and believe me that I wouldnt have done it a year ago cause i too hated just the thought of it) it actually really did benefit me from not being so damn cold all of the time, so maybe it could also help get your body-temperature to a normal level again. Just a thought.

It's great for the skin! Also: A study found that flies lived twice as long when kept at 21°C rather than 27°C.

Similarly, research on worms found that a 5 °C drop in temperature increased lifespan by 75%

Fish also seem to live longer at lower temperatures. For example, one study showed that a 6 °C drop in temperature increased the average fish lifespan by 75 %

In 1986, one researcher immersed his lab rats in shallow, cool water for four hours per day. The rats burned so many extra calories that they ate 50% more than control rats. The cold-exposed rats still weighed less than the control rats and lived 10% longer

Another study lowered the core temperature of mice by 0.3 °C (males) and 0.34 °C (females), resulting in an increase in the average lifespan of 12 and 20% respectively.

You DO want to live a longer don't you? Unless you're suicidal.. which might also have a cure:
A COLD SHOWER.

I believe you that it is healthy, but you don't want to experience ME permanently undercooled. 😘😱
