Best hikes in the Balkans
Hey everyone,
I’m planning a long hiking trip this summer across a pretty specific region, going from Georgia through Turkey and most importantly the Balkans all the way up to the Dolomites.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching on this sub, but most “best hikes in Europe” posts tend to focus on the same places like the Via Alta or Kungsleden, and rarely mention this whole area, which is exactly where I’ll be traveling.
So I’m really looking for spectacular hikes, hidden gems, or lesser-known mountains anywhere along that area. I’m especially interested in places that feel wild and not too crowded.
I’m completely fine with tough hikes and long days. Difficulty is not an issue at all, as long as it doesn’t require technical climbing gear. What I’m really after are routes where I can spend multiple days out (day hikes are also ok) and ideally sleep in the wild. That said, I’m also totally fine if there are huts along the way.
If you’ve done a hike in this region that really stood out to you, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.
