While WIRED remains a strong global brand, the Italian edition has not kept pace with growth in our other markets, including the US, UK, Middle East, Japan and Mexico. La notizia mi ha sorpreso perché pensavo che Wired avesse un certo seguito in Italia, visti gli oltre 250 mila follower su IG e i 986 mila su Facebook. Con questo grande seguito mi chiedo se la mancata profittabilità non sia una questione di gestione delle risorse piuttosto che di popolarità. Comunque una notizia negativa per il Tech italiano e per l’editoria, visto che questo rappresenta anche una scelta di disinvestire nel posizionamento strategico dell'Italia.
La cosa viene anche esplicitata quando Lynch scrive che *continuing to operate them in their current form limits our ability to invest in the ideas and areas that will drive future growth* (continuare ad operare nell forma corrente limita la nostra abilità di investire nelle idee e nelle aree che guideranno la nostra crescita futura). Come a dire: investire in Italia non solo è non profittevole, ma è anche un limite alla nostra crescita, e ci sono aree geografiche più interessanti su cui puntare...
Gli dedica un approfondimento Il Post https://www.open.online/2026/04/16/wired-italia-chiusura-conde-nast-sciopero/ , che non aggiunge granché all'annuncio del CEO (era nell'aria? È arrivato all'improvviso? Ci sono motivi più profondi?); fa notare che la chiusura arriva durante lo sciopero nazionale FNSI contro il mancato rinnovo del contratto nazionale, anche se non ci sono correlazioni fra le due cose, visto anche che l'annuncio parla di altre chiusure (Glamour, Self).
