Welcome to Leskovac, a city in the south of Serbia. Three words to describe him would be: 1. Rostiljijada 2. Ajvar 4. Nature Leskovac is one of the largest cities in Serbia, which had 78,030 inhabitants in the 2002 census. It is the capital of the Jablanica district and is located in the south of the republic, 300 km from Belgrade and 40 km from Niš. 1. Rostiljijada The barbecue is an event that takes place in Leskovac every year in the last week of August and the first week of September. This manifestation affirms the preparation of culinary specialties from the grill, better known as Leskovac grill. For seven days, the event is visited by more than 600,000 visitors, both from Serbia and abroad, and thus ranks it among the top tourist events in Serbia.
Rostiljijada itself is accompanied by a series of culturally entertaining programs, such as a carnival at the opening of the barbecue with a big firework display, making the largest patty for the Guinness Book of Records, a competition in the fast eating of hot peppers (jinchiki), concerts on the square by famous entertainers, the presentation of cultural and artistic societies from the country and abroad, promotion of books, fashion shows...
2. Ajvar (/ˈaɪvɑːr/ EYE-var; Serbian Cyrillic: Ajвар, Bulgarian: Aйвар, romanized: Ayvar) is a condiment made principally from sweet bell peppers and eggplants.[1] The relish became a popular side dish throughout Yugoslavia after World War II and remains popular in Southeast Europe.
Homemade ajvar is made of roasted peppers.Depending on the capsaicin content in bell peppers and the amount of added chili peppers, it can be sweet (traditional), piquant (the most common), or very hot. Ajvar can be consumed as a bread spread or as a side dish. Ajvar has a few variations. One variation contains tomato and eggplant, and another green bell peppers and oregano.
"Homemade Leskovac Ajvar" and "Macedonian Ajvar" are registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization in order to protect their brand names.
