Is this the year that Kucherov wins his second Hart trophy?
Kucherov, after winning the last two Art Ross trophies, started the season with 15 points in 15 games.
Since then, he has 75 points in his last 35 games (176 point pace) and is now 1 point behind MacKinnon (in 3 fewer games played) and 5 points behind McDavid (in 6 fewer games played) for the NHL scoring lead.
To put things in perspective, just one month ago, on December 30th, he was **20 points** back of McDavid for the NHL scoring lead (49 to 69).
His comeback into the NHL scoring race is absolutely incredible, he has 8 points already so far in February and he's led the Lightning to the #1 record in the Eastern Conference.
If he manages to snatch a third straight Art Ross trophy during McDavid's peak, and completely shut out MacKinnon from winning an Art Ross during his own peak, I think there should be no question who the Hart trophy should go to.
Frankly what he's done is already impressive enough that I think you give him the Hart trophy regardless, just like how MacKinnon won it in 2024, despite not winning the Art Ross. #sport
