I’m not saying right now. I’m not saying after the first interview. I mean you lose your job to a company wide workforce reduction. You didn’t really care for the job anyway so you start looking around for other jobs. Some stuff looks interesting and the pay isn’t terrible so you apply. The job then disappears and you don’t know why. Could have been they chose someone else, could be skill and experience related, could be that the building blew up. No idea - let’s keep searching.
More applications and finally you get an interview. It was just with a recruiter though who asked 3 questions that you feel like you answered pretty well. You follow-up and they found someone else. You get feedback and up your game for the next try. Similar thing happens again but this time, you are told you have 4 more interviews you need to do with people who have their calendars booked solid for at least the next month and a half so they are looking to hopefully fill the position in about 8 months. You keep looking but you also see some of your old colleagues doing well which must be nice. You are just a shell though. Still trying to figure out what you did or didn’t do that put you on the newest batch of layoffs the company did. You can’t really be mad at them - they need to hit their targets. You on the other hand feel burnt and any hope you had is swiftly replaced with emptiness. Getting out of bed in the morning is the biggest challenge you’ve had in the past 10 years all of a sudden.
You read more about the job market. You read about what jobs you should try to apply to in your field or related fields. Seems like no one really knows who is safe in what positions and for how long if you work in tech, analytics, or other departments that could face further workforce reductions depending on how much and how quickly AI evolves over time. Some people think they know whether or not they are safe in their positions for at least the next couple years. Yet different articles say different things and speculate as to what’s next.
All the while, you come to the realization that it would just be easier to give in, stop eating, and figure out what type of car would be the best to jump in front of so everything stops being so painful as quickly as possible.
That last sentence is an exaggeration but you get the gist.
Anyone else feeling like this or felt like this recently? Any advice outside of just keep trying? I’m struggling to just put one foot in front of the other and do what I can every day but hope is almost all gone for me at this point. Yes I am getting in with a therapist next week. I just feel so damn alone in all this. Any thoughts or advice or even “stfu loser” is welcome at this stage. It’s so hard doing this alone.
Thank you in advance!
\*I should add my wife left me about 4 days after i was laid off so that has also compounded the issues and just complete depression and loneliness during all this. It’s a lot all at once. Thank you for any advice or suggestions - it means a lot. #business source
