hike groups that stay together vs groups that don't

as a new hiker i'm curious about how you guys feel about this. let's say in both scenarios, expectations are set from the start.

a) the group that stays together. hike leader states no one gets left behind. we only go as fast as the last person.

as a new hiker, this feels nice and comforting.

b) hike leader sets the expectation that the group will separate and will reconnect at different points on the hike.

as a new hiker, this feels not that great. for those out there who have some level of trauma when it comes to separation, the word and even feeling the feeling of separation itself can re-open not so happy memories. yes i understand the expectation is set from the start but that doesn't change the fact that the "feeling" element of the experience of the hike will be different than a group that stays together.

i would still enjoy both hikes regardless but from a feeling perspective, do you guys have a preference and why?
