Hello, active couple (65 and 55) planning a 5-week independent trip for May 2027. We want to avoid a massive all-in-one group tour to prevent social fatigue, so we are piecing it together ourselves using standalone fragments.
Our current plan is: Galapagos land-based tour (5 days) -> Fly to Cusco for altitude adjustment -> 4-Day Classic Inca Trail with Alpaca Expeditions -> 3 nights in a Puerto Maldonado Amazon lodge -> Direct flight from Cusco to Santiago, Chile (wine valley & Atacama) -> Rio de Janeiro finale.
For those who have done similar routes:
\- Is May a good month for these destinations?
\- Does this pacing seem realistic for our ages, or are we moving too fast?
\- Looking to keep spending below $25K. Does that sound reasonable?
\- Starting to look at hotels. Any specific recommendations for independent boutique hotels in these destinations that fit an active, comfortable style?
