Why isn’t Drake viewed the same musically and artistically like Kanye?
I seen a ASAP Rocky interview not too long ago with DJ Akademiks and I see a stark difference with the way Rocky spoke about Kanye compared to Drake in that interview.
ASAP Rocky said despite the controversies of Kanye, Rocky said Kanye is one of the most influential artists and said Kanye influenced him in a positive way. When Rocky spoke about Drake he was very dismissive and even accused Akademiks of being bias with Drake too much in the interview.
Rocky has some personal issues with Drake but I would think despite their personal grievances that Rocky would be more objective cause Drake did help Rocky with the “F\*ckin Problems” feature. Regardless of the points I’ve made, I want to understand the double standard of Drake and Kanye.
Kanye has more classic albums than Drake but Drake output of music has been significantly more than Kanye in a shorter span and Drake has more hit songs on the Billboard than Kanye. Also, Drake melodically maybe over Kanye cause Drake has a traditional singing voice compared to Kanye who had influential melodic music like 808 & Heartbreak that relied more on autotune than Ye’s natural raw voice singing.
To me both Kanye and Drake has had a lot of impact in hip hop and I can’t say one is better than the other. But I don’t understand why Kanye is spoken to with so much reverence but Drake gets dismissed a lot. Why does Kanye get so much respect in hip hop but Drake gets so little respect from hip hop?
