I’m a small GC operating with mostly kitchens and bathrooms. A few times a year we’ll handle a basement buildout.
One of my major gripes, which is small in reality, is fire blocking. Our jurisdiction is super anal about it, which is fine. We go above and beyond so we always spend way too much time on it.
We typically use a combination of mineral wool and fire foam/caulk to handle most areas. I noticed we spend a lot of extra time/money on mineral wool that really isn’t necessary.
I’m curious how others are handling their blocking. I feel like it’s only necessary where a fire would actually start. If I fully insulated each stud bay that had an outlet/switch and then just did 10’ verticals, shouldn’t that be sufficient? I’ve had this conversation with our inspector and he’s just set in his ways. We will appease him but it seems like a waste. #industry source
