Atheists prohibited from holding public office in 7 US states?

Even after reading the article and seeing that the bans are unenforceable because it directly goes against the first amendment as a person who lives in Texas it’s abhorrent that a law like this was even considered much less brought about in the first place.
We may not be the most popular denomination when it comes to religion (or rather the lack thereof) but I didn’t realize that we were discriminated against to this degree.
