How much should I worry about Echinococcus multilocularis on hikes? We live in a high prevalence area. We love to be outdoors with young children, we hike through wooded trails and slide down icy hills. Most recently we hiked and slid down a path that was littered with coyote scat, although we were mindful to avoid it on the ice. The children climbed up the muddy side and slide down the ice. The abundance of scat made me a bit uncomfortable but mostly because it was gross. Later that evening I was reminded of the parasite in coyote scat and I'm concerned I created an unsafe situation.
