Stairway to the Heavens. ☁️
The imposing facade of Santa Luzia in Viana do Castelo. Looking up at the Santuário just before the light began to fade, there is a quiet power to this place sitting high up on the mountain.
I wanted to use the stairs as leading lines to draw the eye straight up to that stunning rose window and the statue of the Sacred Heart. I shot this wide at 18mm to capture the full grandeur of the Neo-Byzantine architecture against the evening sky.

The view from my house when I was a kid. I remember to go there everyday by bike 😁.The building itself is amazing. I remember the stairs to be super small and claustrophobic if there were people passing both ways. Now they've installed a lift!
