How to get started?
I want to try my hand at digital art so i can actually draw the characters I’ve come up with and not have them look like shit.
I’ve tried using an old Samsung tablet my mom got from her job (they replaced them with new ones and let them keep the old ones) but it’s kind of a POS. Constantly lagging, freezing, etc.
I tried using sketchbook, and it was ok aside from the fact it would try to turn any square angles I drew into rounded ones (tried to draw Starscream) and any time I’d try to lay my hand down I’d end up switching layers or something because I don’t know how to get the thing to go away.
The stylus I used was a cheap one I got on Amazon. The tip is less like a pencil and more like a finger if that makes any sense. Like it’s not a fine point so it’s super imprecise.
So how do I get to a point that I can actually start learning? I’d like a decent machine that isn’t too expensive (maybe ~$100-$200?), has an actual screen (my brother has one that doesn’t and I can’t draw like that, I need to be able to see what I’m doing as I do it) I’d also lowkey prefer if it wasn’t an android, I’m more comfortable with Apple since I’ve been using them most of my life. I’d also ideally want something easy to use since I am notoriously bad with computers. (Flashback to high school photography class with me absolutely failing to use photoshop)
If you know any good programs that don’t cost money (or at least aren’t subscription based) lmk as well.
Also are there styluses that have fine points like a pencil? I want to be able to have more precise control when it contacts the screen instead of the marks just showing up somewhere in a 1cm radius.
So yeah, any advice?
