Best place to voyage into the Amazon for an authentic and idigenous-led expedition
I’m planning a trip to the Amazon (up to 7 days) and I’m looking for a very specific type of experience. I want to avoid the "big boat" tours, motorboats on the main river, and staged cultural performances.
I want to go deep into the primary forest with a local indigenous guide or family. Ideally, I’d like to do a private trek with a couple of friends where we actually sleep in the jungle (bivouac/hammocks) and stay with local families in their communities rather than a luxury lodge. I’m looking for something raw and sustainable.
Which country/entry point is best for this?
I'm specifically looking for organisations or local contacts that offer multi-day hiking/canoeing through the primary forest where we learn traditional survival, medicinal plants, and are completely off the grid.
Does anyone have actual names local guides, indigenous cooperatives, or small operators you've personally used and can recommend?
