For my New Years resolution, I decided that I wanted to start practicing religion again. For context: I grew up Muslim but had a very troubling childhood which led me to stray from religion and brought me into a very dark time. I've now taken time to heal from my childhood trauma and with being in a better headspace decided that Islam is something I want to be a part of my life and something I felt has always been a part of my identity. My family no longer practices, and I don't have too close of a relationship with them, so I have felt a bit lost on this journey. I have started to read the Quran again and have been taking classes online to study Islam and Arabic. I would like to participate in Ramadan this year, but I don't know how to get started or what some best practices would be. I live in Washington State (King County) and it hasn't been too easy finding cultural centers where I could get a mentor or that have in person classes. I am very nervous about attending mosque by myself as well. However, I would like to overcome this fear and be more in tune with my faith. I think spending this one by myself might be best to get me more comfortable, but I am unsure of how to navigate this. Any and all advice would be welcomed. Thank you.
