Renewable energy has finally grown fast enough to meet all…

Renewable energy has finally grown fast enough to meet all new global electricity demand

For the first time ever, rising electricity needs were fully covered by clean power rather than fossil fuels. This matters on a global scale: China and India, traditionally the largest drivers of fossil‑fuel growth, both saw *falls* in fossil generation thanks to record renewable expansion, and solar overtook coal in the global electricity mix. It’s one of the clearest signs yet that the world’s energy transition is not only happening, but accelerating.

Renewables not only grew faster than ever, but they overtook coal as the world’s largest source of electricity for the first time in more than a century, supplying 33.8% of global power in 2025, compared with coal’s 33.0%.
