I haven't heard or seen this but did play with a metal spinning top as a child. It had a vertical piston/lever to create the spin and was considerable in size.

It was a game from my childhood and it sounds very similar to a metal spinning top.
With these ones you have launchers where you attach the beyblade and use a rip cord or string launcher.
You can generate some high RPM's!
