Request for Advice on Premuzic Trail
Hi we are looking to hike from Zavizan to Baske Ostarije starting September 23 over 3 days, and I had a few questions for which I would much appreciate advice and help!
(a) Do other hikers feel it is better to get to Zavizan the night before and stay at the mountain hut for an early start on hike next morning, or is it ok to take a van/taxi the morning of from Baske Ostarije? I am told that it is about 2 hours one way from Baske to Zavizan. Is this is a good estimate of the drive time or should we plan on more time? I would like to start the hike by 730am and so we would plan to leave Baske 530am I guess. I am a steady but not a very fast hiker (walk rate 3km/hr unless uphill steep when I am slower for sure. Maybe 4.8km/hr if it's pretty flat).
(b) In your opinion which is the best most scenic part of the Zavizan to Baske hike? I ask because one option I was thinking of was to do the hike as a loop from Baske to Skorpovac Shelter (day 1) then out/back Skorpovac to Alan Hut (day 2) and then Skorpovac back to Baske Ostarije via the side peaks of Budakovo Brdo and Visocica. But do you think that missing the 1st section from Zavizan to Alan Mountain hut is a bad idea?
(c) In this regard, I am recovering from ACL surgery on my right knee from early March 2026. I have been doing the physical therapy exercises diligently. My doctor advised that I can proceed with hiking but should aim to do a hike 1-2 levels below what I have typically done pre-ACL. Previous to the ACL tear I have hiked interesting hikes including Logar valley to Kamnik Saddle via The Wall (Slovenia), Hike from Vrata valley to Boski Gamsovec and back via Aljazev Dom (Slovenia), Poncebos to Refugio Jou de los Cabrones and back via villages (Spain). I am not a technical climber but can do these hikes albeit at a steady pace. So I am wondering if doing the hike back from Skorpovac to Baske via the side peaks of Budakovo Brdo etc would qualify as about 1-2 levels below what I have typically done or whether hikers on this forum feel it is in same group? I watched a couple videos and the hikes looked lovely, but it is on Karst so I don't want to assume that they are doable.
