I Cannot Keep Up With My Child's Homework Expectations
I'm in the UK. In Primary School, my child got little to no homework and the changeover has been overwhelming. We're barely 4 weeks into high school, my child is stressed and overwhelmed and already onto her 3rd detention (the first was because she was a few minutes late to class because she got lost, the other two are due to missed homework).
We've been doing our best with a busy schedule to help her with it, she's joined two homework clubs, I've done the library, we've sat with her at night. And it's barely scratching the surface of everything she needs to do. But I'm already at breaking point seeing the 8 more pieces she has to finish by next week.
The apps are the worst part. There's so many. There's a different app for practically every subject. I can't seem to sign into the student portal for her to see her homework because it's now telling me I don't have access. She seems to have very little idea of what she's supposed to be doing and the whole situation is making her lash out and get angry with us nearly every night. I'm spending most of my afternoons when she's not home crying because I don't want her to be behind in school. She's gone from being the top of her class to barely keeping up. Does it get any better? #relationships source
That transition sounds incredibly stressful for both of you. Have you considered reaching out to the school for a workload adjustment or exploring tutoring options that might help ease the pressure?
