How best to install attic staircase in non-standard opening?

I'm trying to install a pull-down attic staircase in my garage
There's an existing hole in the ceiling, some kind of access hatch. The previous owner made some kind of hinge mechanism that you can flip down, but it's long since been damaged and doesn't really work anymore.... I was going to go ahead and remove that later
The problem is the hole he made is a weird size and doesn't really fit any of the staircases I'm looking at
I was trying to get something that's 30 in wide and 54 in deep, but the hole isn't long enough (45") and is also too wide (35")
What are my options for making this work?
