My social anxiety is gone
I complimented a girl’s hair today while shopping. It popped in my mind and I voiced my desire to my friend who told me I should go for it so it did instantly, without thinking about it at all.
I WANTED to strike up a conversation with a random mall stand worker i was buying from. Even more shockingly, I did so. It was halted and probably slightly awkward for her, but it was still a conversation that arose completely from my organic desire for human communication.
It wasn’t killed by my fear of socialising or crippling self doubt which is massive for me.
I’ve even encouraged my friend to bring HER socially anxious friend around to meet up with us. I’ve never met the dude and apparently he ducked out of meeting us because HE was scared of ME. If you knew how socially-averse I used to be you would know how crazy that statement is.
That’s not to say that I don’t get anxious any more. Today was the last day of school for a lot of people in my city, so the shopping centre we went to was packed with students, a lot I knew personally or through social media.
They were all so pretty and cool and I was scared of saying hi to them but some girls greeted me first! I worried for no reason.
I had some anxiety but it didn’t follow me around my every social interaction.
Is this what it’s like to be normal?
