I’ve been a hermit for close to a decade now. (I’m 22) What I’ve learned is that there is nothing worth doing in a vacuum. If I am going to stay here I need to learn to get along with people. I have dreams where I am walking down a road, and I am in a group that is recognizably ours.
I do ok meeting someone for the first time, maybe they’ll ask for my Snapchat, I’ll think great, a new friend!
But then I can never find any reason to reach out. Why would I? Theres no urgent situation. I have no pressing questions. And soon it’s been a month and neither of us have texted eachother. I just counted and there are 13 such people in my phone, a lot more than the amount I ever actually talk to.
I feel like there’s just… nothing to talk about. Nothing to be said. I’m a really detached person. I don’t have opinions so much as feelings and even those are pretty hard to pin down, usually collapsing into “I like this” or “I don’t like this.” I guess that means I am quite shallow? Nothing seems to have any bearing, you know? I spend my time eating sleeping and working. Every hobby that’s not mostly shopping becomes another chore. My life is contentless. I have very little interest in it. Sometimes I wonder if I fried myself with too much novelty. I spent all my time alone online.
I miss when we didn’t have phones. I feel like I did so much better when you ran into people serendipitously. Now it’s such an effort to choose who you talk to, when, why. With texting there is no “What are you doing here!”
Also why are people so flaky? I spent my 21st alone, no one who said yes when I invited them showed up… it’s become a pattern. #relationships source
