Yesterday I was driving to my buddy's place on a 2-lane highway. I was in the left lane, matching the car beside me. Someone came in hot behind me, so I sped up a bit and moved into the right lane. She passed me, sticking up her middle finger. At the light, she was beside my car in the left-turn lane while I was going straight. She lowered her window, and I lowered mine slightly while petrified. I don't even know what she was saying because of a loud semi-truck behind me. At first, she was talking normally but started raising her voice until the light turned green.
Before that, I was at a drive-thru and asked if they had hash browns. I couldn't really hear what the employee was saying and assumed my order had been taken, so I slowly drove toward the window. She then screamed, "I was checking if there were hash browns," with a straight, angry face. She stared for a couple of seconds before going back to what she was doing.
Another time, I went to this park for the first time and parked in a lot near the waterfront. There weren't any restricted parking signs or anything, so I thought it was fine. A woman approached me aggressively and told me it was a dog park. I asked her where the main parking lot was, but she didn't care and just kept yelling at me to leave, or they would call security. I left calmly and parked somewhere else. It was a dog park, but Google Maps showed that parking lot was somewhere else.
I don't go out very often, partly because of situations like this. Most people I interact with are nice, but experiences like these stick with me and sometimes the bad feel like it outweighs the good. I get scared to leave the house sometimes, even though I still try to encourage myself to do so. I get that people have bad days, but yelling at someone for some minor inconvenience is inconsiderate.
Does this happen to anyone else? How do you deal with people suddenly getting angry or yelling at you? #relationships source
