My partner and I just bought a house and while I'd like to jump into gardening right away, I know next to nothing about it. There are a few beds with woodchips on top, as well as Crocuses, Daffodils, and Tulips that have begun to flower, so my impression is the previous owners also gardened.
I'm wondering what I can do now in early April to start simply and just get it ready for the spring and for other things I'd like to plant. Is it too early to clear up leaves and dead plants, or will that harm resting pollinators? Should I add mulch? Plant anything new yet or wait and see what else grows?
I know we are in Zone 5, and that's about the extent of my knowledge! Need a very basic 101 please. #activity source
