We installed a beautiful butcherblock as a working surface right above the washer and dryer. Before I could seal it with my choice of clear coat some dryer sheets "stained"the wood. As well as some misterious little drops (I'm guessing fabric softener or laundry detergent drips which were just wiped off afterwards)
How do I proceed to: 1) make the spots disappear or less obvious 2) add a protective coat, so if I put damp laundry on top of it, none of the clothes will stain. 3) it's European white oak and I'd like to avoid the oak to turn yellowish with whatever I use.
Big bonus if I could even place laundry items which were treated with stain remover on top of the countertop but not a must.
I was thinking about an oil based clear coat or if I would need to oil it first to make the spots disappear and then apply a clear coat.
If you have specific product recommendations. I'm all for it and would highly appreciate it
