We have purchased a house with an established garden. We are slowly bringing it under control and learning a long the way.. . But are having to deal with weed matting that in some places is a foot deep in soil. I have been removing a lot of it as I want to improve the soil with mulching. As I would like to keep the existing trees and plant new ones my questions are.. how important is it to remove the deeply embedded matting and are there any easier options to improving the soil quality underneath the matting than pulling it up?
