YouTube University For Carpentry Just from watching…

YouTube University For Carpentry

Just from watching YouTube videos I learned how to read a tape measure, how to hammer a nail, how to string, how to use a speed square, and why we use nails for framing instead of screws.

I found I really like watching Essential Craftsman, Unscripted with Antonio, Training Hands Academy and Teach Construction Community Education. Each video I feel like I’m preparing myself for the job that I want.

I even bought a block of wood to practice my hammering, even though I know onsite a nail gun might be preferred.

I’m kind of sad that there aren’t more women teaching carpentry on YouTube. I found videos about women in carpentry and they tend to be old videos.

There is a young lady sharing her experience as an electrician who was accepted into the IBEW program named Zen Volts.

From YouTube I taught myself how to knit, how to code with HTML, CSS, Python, and JavaScript, basic mathematics, algebra and geometry.

So don’t snub the self taught stuff when you don’t know anyone, short on cash and have free time to develop yourself.

Reading a tape and swinging a hammer from video alone is braver than people admit. The nails-versus-screws bit is the one that sticks: framing wants something that can flex when the lumber moves. Speed square still feels like a magic trick until the first layout line is square. Which of those four channels actually made the cut click, Essential Craftsman or Training Hands Academy? #industry
