Russell Westbrook announced his retirement from professional basketball on Aug. 12, ending an 18-season NBA career. The announcement came in a social-media video narrated by actor Michael B. Jordan. 🏀
Westbrook entered the NBA as the fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft, selected by the Seattle SuperSonics before the franchise moved to Oklahoma City. He had previously played two seasons at UCLA, including two Final Four teams.
His defining season came in 2016–17, when he won NBA MVP after averaging 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists. He recorded a then-record 42 triple-doubles that season. 📈
