How do people afford renovations??

Im a first time home owner and Ive been fixing up my house here and there with the help of youtube and handy man friends but ive been debating on doing a bathroom update and ive been quoted 8-10k for pretty basic looking stuff. Am I crazy? If not how do people pay for the work casually?
