We Need a Better Word Than "Partner" For a Significant Other
I realize it's become a norm, and for that reason, most people are fine with it, but really "partner" is a pretty lame word for somebody that you are in a romantic or loving relationship with.
It has either a very sterile and business-like connotation (like business partner,) or the connotation of just a friendly and generic acquaintance "howdy partner," no more meaningful than "buddy" or "pal."
I think a word for a romantic.. partner.. should be a little more intimate, meaningful, or at least imply a stronger connection or relationship.
I don't have any good suggestions for a replacement. Easier to destroy than create.
