Non-toxic stain and finish for kitchen shelves?
I’m making floating shelves for the kitchen from oak and I was thinking of staining them to match my dark brown countertops. They will primarily be used to hold cookbooks, utensils, coffee bags etc. but still, since it’s an area of food preparation, I’d like to be cautious. Is there some combination of stain and finish that is safe for kitchen use, in the sense that it does not release anything nasty into the air and would be fine with occasional food contact?
