They really do this stuff?

My friend she works in senior level corporate recruiting for one of the “Big 3” retail companies in the United States. And she told me that just because jobs are added to the economy doesn’t actually mean they are filled or ever going to be filled. She told me that many companies, including hers, the directors will tell the lower level recruiters to post a variety of “open jobs” across the country, but those jobs are really “phantom positions”, that aren’t actually available. They do this to raise shareholder confidence. Pretty much, “People want to be a part of our company, look at all these applications we have!” Basically, fake jobs on their own website, so people hoping to work, they never had a chance anyway because it wasn’t actually available. I understand this is business but to the people who really want to work, it’s kinda f’d up to do that to people.
